No simple statement of faith could encompass everything that we believe.  However, we think people need a sense of what churches believe.  At Chelsea Community Church, our beliefs flow from the Bible as God’s divinely inspired and trustworthy written word.  The Bible is our only reliable basis for faith and conduct.  

We believe in the one true God who lives eternally in three persons – the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.  We believe in the love, grace and sovereignty of God in creating, sustaining, ruling, redeeming and judging the world.

We believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, the incarnation of God’s eternal Son who was born of the Virgin Mary.  He was truly divine and truly human, yet without sin.  We believe that Jesus died on the cross as the atoning sacrifice for us.  Jesus died in our place, paying the price of our sin and defeating evil.  Through the Cross, Jesus reconciled us to God.  We believe in Jesus’ bodily resurrection on the third day, in triumph over sin, death and hell.  Jesus is the first fruits of our resurrection, a promise that all with faith in Jesus will rise from the dead.  Jesus ascended to the Father, where he reigns and mediates as the only Saviour of the world.  We believe in the personal and visible return of Jesus Christ to fulfil the purposes of God, who will raise all people to judgment, bring eternal life to the redeemed and eternal condemnation to the lost, and establish a new Heaven and a new earth.

We believe in God the Holy Spirit, who leads us to repentance, unites us with Jesus Christ through new birth, empowers our discipleship and enables our witness.  We believe that the Holy Spirit brings all followers of Jesus together in the Church.  We believe that the Church is the body of Christ, both local and universal, the priesthood of all believers.  The Church is given life by the Spirit and endowed with the Spirit’s gifts to worship God and proclaim the gospel, promoting justice and love.

We believe in the worth and dignity of all people, made male and female in God’s image.  God created people to love, be holy, and care for God’s creation.  By choosing not to live according to God’s will and God’s wisdom, people became corrupted by sin and evil, which deserves God’s wrath and judgment.  We believe that God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, so that whoever would believe in Jesus might have forgiveness of sins and receive eternal life.  We believe that people are saved only by the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ.
